A new law, starting July 1st, establishes Medical Review Panels to address the escalating costs directly attributable to the medical liability climate in Kentucky. It establishes independent evaluation from medical experts of proposed claims brought against health care providers without limiting, delaying, or denying a patient’s or their family’s access to court. Medical Review Panels have been employed in other states, including Indiana, to provide another layer of accountability for providers and personal injury lawyers.
We have been lobbying for decades for medical malpractice reforms and believe that this will provide appropriate relief to medical providers and some relief in our medical costs.
