Kentucky Health Cooperative Closing

Kentucky Health Cooperative Closing

On October 9th the Kentucky Health Cooperative (Co-op) announced that they will close effective December 31, 2015 due to significant financial challenges.  The state cooperatives were an important part of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), but the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have identified issues in 23 co-ops throughout the United States.  According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, due to the co-op closing, an estimated 51,000 citizens will need to find health coverage through a different program when open enrollment starts on November 1st (10/2015).  The CMS has announced that they are working with Kentucky officials to try and prevent as many citizens as possible from losing or having a lapse in coverage.  To find out more on the closing of the Kentucky Health Cooperative click here.
