Joseph R Swedish, President and CEO of Anthem, Inc. revealed on February 4, 2015 that Anthem has been the victim of an external cyber attack. As a result the attackers obtained access to protected information of many current and past Anthem members, including those of Anthem Ohio, Anthem Kentucky and Anthem Indiana. The information obtained includes name, address, member ID’s, social security numbers and employment information. The data did not include credit card information or health history.
Anthem is cooperating fully with the FBI which is investigating the situation and has retained the services of cyber security firm, Mandiant, to evaluate Anthem’s system and recommend changes.
Anthem will mail letters to individuals whose information has been breached and will offer free credit monitoring and identification protection to each individual.
